GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2024
The annual Unitarian Universalist General Assembly was held remotely from June 20th through
June 23rd. Over 2,000 delegates participated in topical sessions ranging from a powerful
gathering on race and gender including author J Mase III, the war in Gaza, a Juneteenth
celebration, youth sessions on business and music, a session on the activities and investments
of the UUA, and many others, with a library of 60 additional pre-recorded “sub-sessions“ on a
variety of topics related to UU practices, congregations and movements. The heart of the GA
was the General Sessions, spread over four days to allow thorough debate and multiple rounds
of amendments and voting on Rules of Procedure, Business Resolutions, Bylaw Amendments
and importantly – the Final Proposed Revision to Article II – the “statement of values and beliefs
for Unitarian Universalism”. This article is a wonderful summary on the process, outcomes and
impacts of this important vote. The GA can be both serious and celebratory, with long energetic
debates and reflective services and calming music. It is also a wonderful opportunity to
represent UUCGL and meet and learn from the UU diaspora. Next year, Baltimore, in-person
June 18-22!
